Getting ready for Autumn

And just like that it's September already!!

The flowers I grow myself here in Scotland are really slowing down now and I'm having to buy in much more flowers.

However, even though I am buying in flowers from my wholesaler I like to stick to what is seasonal.

I can't bring myself to buy tulips in Autumn!

Every change of season I find myself having new favourite flowers and colours of flowers.

And each season I find myself saying this is my favourite season for flowers!! But I think what I really mean is a change is as good as a rest and I forget how much I love the deep heathery purple/pinks, and the burnt oranges that are naturally occurring in the stunning dahlias and asters that are growing happily even here in the Scottish Borders.

But I think, really, what excites me most about the floral bouquets and arrangements that I'm making up in the workshop just now is the sumptuous hedgerow additions of berries.

Whether it be rosehips, brambles or even snowberries, there's always a place for them in my flower designs at this time of year.

If you're passing my flower shop in Melrose just now, have a look in the window and you'll see the jewel colours of late summer/Autumn flowers shine in the bouquets and arrangements, complimented by the berries that I can't resist.
